Following Spain’s Supreme Court partially upholding the Spanish Digital Gaming Association (Jdigital)’s appeal against Royal Decree 958/2020, restrictions such as bans on celebrity advertising were annulled, yet the government has signaled it plans to move forward with its plans to have the most stringent surveillance of gambling and operators in Europe, including restriction on the promotion of non-traditional gambling, including ‘loot boxes’ and ID verification requirements for video games, a new centralised player registry and the mandatory record-keeping of ‘risk profiles’.
